Kaiser Permanente Of California

Kaiser Permanente of California has roots tracing back to 1933 and has been providing quality health care to Californians for many years. Kaiser Permanente’s founder, Sidney Garfield, MD (along with industrialist Henry J. Kaiser) is believed to have pioneered the fixed prepay health insurance system and also the attention to preventative benefits that set the precedent for many insurance companies today.

What started out as insurance coverage for only a few thousand people in Los Angeles is now a billion dollar company that meets the needs of residents across the state of California (and 10 other states and the District of Columbia). Out of such humble beginnings Kaiser Permanente has now become the nation’s largest non-profit HMO with close to 9 million members nationwide.

Kaiser Permanente stresses preventative benefits and will even cover chiropractic visits with some of their plans. Kaiser has plans with a $250 deductible, a $500 deductible, a $1500 deductible and also 2 copay plans: the $25 copay plan and the $50 copay plan. In addition, some of the deductible only plans are Health Savings Account Compatible.

Kaiser Permanente of CA covers prescriptions on some of its copay plans allowing for up to a 100 day supply (many plans will only allow up to a 30 or 31 day supply with each copayment). As with most big and reputable health insurers, Kaiser also allows for worldwide coverage in the event of an emergency (In other words, it is standard practice for most trustworthy insurance company’s to have a provision that in the event of an emergency – everything is considered “in-network” – regardless of where you happen to be at when the emergency happens).

Some of the other benefits that many Kaiser Permanente plans in California offer include well-child visits until age 2, family planning visits, scheduled prenatal care, first post partum visit, eye exams, hearing tests, chiropractic office visits, physical/occupational/speech therapy, allergy infection visits, and immunizations.
